through the Mediumship of William Stainton Moses

Moses had contact with the early founders of the Theosophical Society, and his work is probably the best example of Spiritualistic Communication, on a much higher level than the outpourings produced by Mediums then, or now, but also demonstrating the inevitable limitations of such material. The problems posed by Moses’ nature, and a wider source for the material than ‘disembodied spirits’, are hinted at in the Mahatma Letters. Despite his opportunity to enter the Theosophical Movement, Moses ultimately failed, becoming a founder member of the SPR, cuttingly dismissed by Madame Blavatsky as ‘The Spookological Society’.

This is a wide ranging book in which Moses sets down the ‘answers’ he received, covering (among other things) communicating spirits, obstacles by ‘Brothers of the Shadow’ [Black Magicians], philanthropy & the Ideal man, types of Mediumship, spiritual effects of Derby Day, Neo-Platonism, Spiritual Christianity, Progressive Revelation, India the source of Spirituality…

290 pp hardback plus introductory essay on Moses’ life, 1918, ex libris with usual markings, some damage to spine, binding cracked but reasonable, no markings to text, slight discoluration to boards, particularly rear,London Spiritualist Alliance
